Hugh Jackman and Stephen Colbert announced in a video (see above) earlier today that they will be co-hosting the 2015 Global Citizen Festival, which takes place in New York City’s Central Park on September 26th, 2015.

As Colbert describes it best, Global Citizen Festival “is a huge concert for a good cause: ending global poverty by 2030.” In the announcement video, he also noted hat 2015 is a crucial year for ending poverty everywhere, “because this September, world-leaders are gathering at the U.N. to announce their global goals for the next 15 years.”

The event is being produced by Emmy Award-winner Ken Ehrlich, who is known for producing the Grammy Awards, and will also feature lead hosts like “Chime For Change” co-founder Salma Hayek Pinault, Deborra-lee, Kerry Washington and Olivia Wilde. Musical performances will include stints by Pearl Jam, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, and Beyoncé.

“We can’t wait to stand with these awesome artists, co-hosts, and thousands of global citizens in Central Park this September as we call on our leaders to end the injustice that is extreme poverty. The Global Citizen movement is proof that when we come together and raise our voices, our leaders pay attention,” Deborra-lee and Hugh Jackman said in a joint statement.

The process of getting access to the “huge concert” is slightly different from what one might usually do. Instead of simply purchasing tickets online or at the box office, you can only win a ticket to the event if you participate in Global Citizen’s “Action Journey,” as part of which you are asked to tweet, e-mail, call, or sign petitions in support of ending global poverty.

If you are not one of the lucky winners, you can watch the event live on MSNBC hosted by Willie Geist, Janet Mock and Alex Wagner, or live-stream the concert on YouTube at with hosts asapSCIENCE and Matthew Santoro, all presented by T-Mobile.
